Kernel Exchange Suite Resolved Exchange Database Unmounting Issues That Turned Out To Be A Recovery Disaster For The Client.

Problem

One of the active clients of the firm was suffering from the problem of inability to mount database to Exchange Server and when trying to do so, receiving the following error message - "An internal processing error has occurred. Try restarting the Exchange System Manager or the Microsoft Exchange Information Store service, or both."

The client approached Kernel Data Recovery team to resolve this error as backup was unavailable at the moment and there was strong dependence on old data for transactions and support to its customers. The client encountered this situation while working on the Exchange Server 2003. He came across the scenario that one of the storage databases is suddenly dismounted. Whenever he was trying to mount the database, he was receiving the same error "An internal processing error has occurred."

After performing many unsuccessful attempts, the client approached KDR team. The data recovery was required urgently as backup file was unavailable at the site and old data was urgently required for the transactions/support to its customers.

Cause

Our team analyzed the situation carefully and studied the error occurrence pattern. Soon, we found out the reasons for the error was - insufficient disk space (exceeded 16 GB) for mounting the database. Also, one of the reasons would be eseutil/p command that has been run on the database while trying to mount the database. Data corruption was also one of the suited reasons too.

Solution
