Split video file with VLC media player smoothly

The VLC media player is not only a multimedia player but a powerful utility to perform actions further than that. The VLC media player can perform numerous tasks, one of which is splitting videos. Let’s start splitting videos with VLC media player.

  1. Run VLC Media Player and add the video file you want to split, by clicking on the Media tab and then selecting the Open File option.
  2. Now, decide from where you want to start splitting the video and forward the video to that point. If you want to do it from the start, keep it from the start.
  3. After deciding the point to split from, click on the View option on the top and select Advanced Controls option from the menu.
  4. Once you click on the Advanced Controls option, you will see that a few video control options are added.
  5. Now click on the Tools option and select Preferences from the tool’s menu.
  6. You will get a new separate Window of Simple Preferences; there select Input/Codecs category from the listed categories. Now scroll down and look for Record directory or filename in Files section; now provide a destination to the recordings you are going to split by clicking on the Browse button. Once done, click on the Save button to finish.
  7. Once you click the save button, you will be back on the screen where the video is playing. Now you need to click on the recording icon to start the recording. Record until you want to record and click on the recording icon again to stop the recording process. (This process can be repeated as required.)
  8. Now you can find all the recorded videos at the location where you saved it.
